Search Engines are not that stupid – and content is still king

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

They say “content is king”. Is it true?

If you’re fairly experienced with websites, search engines and traffic in general, you might have heard this before. If you’re really into internet marketing, you’ve heard this time and again.

And I will wholly and totally confirm it: Content IS king.

Stop using gimmicks and META tags and sneaky tricks that “guarantee” traffic explosions and nuclear hazards. Stop stealing other people’s content, either through XML, RSS, or whatever XHDHTML you might think of. Duplicate and junk content is OUT. Quality, timely, visitor-oriented content is IN. Big time! Read on to find out more.

High-value, focused content keeps the Internet world spinning properly on its axis. It’s the fundamental behavior that keeps EVERYONE happy.
(Ken Envoy)

FACT: Search Engines are not that stupid.

Many people, books, websites and articles will tell you about how searchengine go for “tags”, “keyword density”, “keyword-rich domains”, so on and so forth. When I was running my first web sites, back in 1998, you could fool them with meta tags. A year after, meta tags were in total decline, and, shortly after, they were practically dead. Then came Google with its revolutionary system. And along came the SEO guys, spreading their wisdom: “Put the keywords in the title, in the first paragraph, in H1, H2 and H15 and you’re done”. Try to do that today for a top keyword and see if you succeed.

Is my website’s domain name, www.InternetMyBusiness.com keyword-rich? Yes, it is. Is this of any use? NO. I didn’t get high search engine rankings explosive SEO results because of it.

The bottom line is: things are evolving. Things are not static and neither are the search engines. They learn how to deal with tricks and no gimmick is gonna work on the long run.

ANOTHER FACT: Search Engines detect ‘duplicate content’.

Therefore, you’re not that smart if you just copy and paste a bunch of words, or if you ’suck’ them through XML or RSS.

ANOTHER FACT: Searchengines love content, and so do people.

The internet is all about content. You already knew that, right?

ANOTHER FACT: Quality matters You already knew that as well. But I just feel many people still need a confirmation. Through the
quality of the content you provide you gain credibility, respect, popularity AND high conversion rates and sales.

What are the conclusions of this article?

1. Start creating content. Right now. You invest a little time and effort, but it pays.
2. Stop dreaming of that magic trick that will bring you free content and 1687.48987.8947987 visitors in 24 hours without you lifting a finger.
3. Concentrate on quality AND on quantity – this is the right order.

Take your time to deliver quality and enjoy the results.

:)
What’s nice about the end of this article is that I am not trying to persuade you into buying anything.
I’ll just let you know that I run a website where I share all my knowledge on internet marketing with you people for free.

On Page SEO in five easy steps

On page Seo is on of the most important parts of seo. Here I am going to list the different things you have to do to have
your site well optimized, remember that you first have to pick the keyword you want to rank for, then read this guide:

1. – Putting Keywords in Titles: A really important thing is to put keywords in titles, how is that? simple, add between
the < title > and < /title > tags the keyword you want to rank for. For example this article’s title would be On page SEO.

2. – Putting keywords in url: Another thing to do is adding your keywords in your url, For example, here we want to rank
for On page seo, so our URL should be on-page-seo.html, we used dashes cause searche engines read dashes (-) as spaces.

3. – Putting keywords in Tags: You also should add between the and tags the following code:
< meta name="keywords" content="your, keywords"> < meta name="description" content="Your site description including
your keywords"> Obviously replacing it with your own content.

4. – Putting image descriptions on alt tags: Remember to put descriptions on your images using the alt tag.

5. – Use Heading Tags: Use heading tags in your main keywords, H1 for your main keywords, H2 for your secondary keywords
and h3,h4,h5,h6 for the others.

Well, that are the main things to do, if you do all that you should have a site ranking well. For more seo articles visit my site:

Search Engine Optimization of Your Blog

Search Engine Optimization of Your Blog

Now-a-days installing blogging softwares are just few minutes of click and run jobs. In few minutes you can install a nice
looking blog ready to be published. Until this stage, everything seems simple, but when it comes to promoting something
as complex as blogging softwares or CMS (Content Management System) applications for that mater, on which blogging
softwares are based, can be quite tricky and painful. It is as much painfully easy to install blog software, as it is painfully
hard to promote it on search engines if you do not know the correct direction to make headway.

Even though Wordpress comes with features which will help you to make your blog search engine optimized, but these are
too basic features to be relied on and you will still need to make changes yourself to better it.

Mata Tags

Meta tags which are important for search engine optimizing your blog, doesn’t come bundled with your Wordpress, when you
install it. You will need to install a plugins to have your meta tags displayed on your blog head. Meta tags can be added in the
header.php file of your blog. A list of popular Mata tags plugins can be found at http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Meta .

Permalink Tag

Every blog has a Permalink feature; it is the permanent link (URL) to a post or page on your blog. Having keyword rich URLs
will surely help your blog being pulled for important keywords. You can customize your permalink structure to have more
keywords instead of default /category/year/date/time/hour/minute/second/post_title as your post URL. For instance, you can
remove %seconds%, %hour% or %post_id% in your parmalink tag. These are not necessary and having them as your URIs will
only make it look longer. Also you can do away with %date% tag altogether to just have %category% in the URIs.

Category names

Be careful while making categories. You can always have the category names as keywords so that your final URIs will be
full of keywords.

Tagging

You can have tags especially Technorati Tag plugin installed for your blog posts. Tags are basically names of categories or
subjects. With tags in your post, you can categorize your posts based on these tags. While tagging will increases traffic to
your blog, it will also make it search engine friendly.

Making above changes to your blog will definitely make it look more search engine optimized and will help you increase its
online visibility in Search engine result pages (SERPs).

Link building for effective search engine optimization

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

When you begin the task of acquiring quality and relevant backlinks to your website there are many factors that can increase
or decrease your search engine rankings. This article outlines the difference between good and bad backlinks. A quality backlink
pointing to your site should be in the same category and relevant in content to your website. The page where your link is located
should be indexed by Google and the page should also have a Google page rank. The webpage where your link is located should
also contain no more than 30 other out-going links to other websites. Link pages with more than 30 out-going links are less
relevant to the search engines. Having your link posted on this type of webpage can affect your search engine rankings in a
negative way. Other excellent techniques of acquiring backlinks are directory submissions, posting articles, blogs and forums.
For directory submissions select the proper directory category and take a look at how many other websites are contained in the
category where your link would be posted, if you can manage to get on the first or second page of the listings, this is a quality
backlink. Also look at the Google page rank of the landing page for your link. If the page has a Google page rank this is also a
quality backlink. Stay within your category, relevant content is very important to the search engines. Write an article preferably
relevant in content to your website and submit the article to high quality article directories. Blogs are an excellent way to get
quality one-way backlinks, Blog sites also receive tons of traffic, which in turn give your site more exposure. Posting your link
on forum pages is also an efficient method of aquiring backlinks instantly. Backlinks to avoid would be a 0 page ranked webpage,
especially if the home page has a zero page rank. Links posted within framed webpages which will also steal your traffic.
Especially avoid link farms, webpages which contain more than 100 unrelated outgoing links, This type of link page is frowned
upon by many major search engines. Avoid Webpages with mirror sites containing the exact same content with a different URL,
also pages that utilize redirects and URL cloaking. Never post your link on a webpage that contains a “no follow” or “no index”
robots meta tag within the source code. Dynamic websites with question marks in the URL should be avoided because they
are not always indexed by the search engines. Also avoid posting your link on a page that opens very slow or contains mostly
ads and flash banners. Try not to aquire or purchase great numbers of backlinks in a short period of time, backlinks should be
accumulated gradually. Also avoid webpages and directories that list their results in alphabetical order, as their database
increases your link could be moved to a less relevant page with less pagerank. Quality backlinks are one of the most important
factors involved in the process of acheiving high search engine ranking.

MSN Ad center – when will it be working as it’s supposed?

MSN Ad center – when it will be working as it’s supposed?

Online Advertising is essential for most of the people who do business online and looking for
new opportunities for advertising some of you like me have probably opened an account
at MSN Ad center, well I don’t know about you but I’m already quite disappointed.
For those who hasn’t made this step yet, I’ll tell ‘hold up’ if you don’t want to cause
yourself anxiety and headache.

Here you are some well-founded reasons:

If you need an assistance regarding your campaigns or account you’ll wait quite long for
reply from their support, something which isn’t so huge problem because the support of other
similar companies isn’t also so fast, the biggest problem is that after receiving the long
expected reply you’ll find out that it probably has been quoted from their FAQ section -
something you definitely can read and wouldn’t open a ticket about.
As your question has been lost while you were sending it, no sign of answer or comprehension
what you were asking about, if you have more time you can continue asking and receiving
nonsenses answers as you just start advertising and you’ve signed up for lessons from
Level “I” support.

If you still have some patience left, get ready for the next surprise.
You’re running your campaigns and receiving clicks – you’d say everything’s fine – what then?
then this – try to pause or stop a campaign – no luck.
It’s just impossible – a pop up window will just let you know that you can’t do that, if you
finally somehow manage to outwit it and see your campaigns paused DO NOT believe it at all,
you’ll continue to receive clicks – guess why?, because your campaigns are still running.
Of course your cost per clicks also increases although these are already unwanted clicks,
they are not free of charge and you just can do nothing but to see how the amount you
spend on advertising goes up. For this issue you’ll get a reply that it’s a well-known problem :)
but this well known problem is existing and who knows when it will be fixed.
Maybe after thousand software experiments at advertisers’ expense, advertisers who are
unable to manage their campaigns and who pay out of their pockets for additional clicks they
wouldn’t like to get but they do because MSN have foreknown about these well-known
problems but launched their ADvertising center obviously thinking they can learn “in motion”.

Another good example that earning money is more important than everything else including
client’s satisfaction and the quality of the service.

I’d say – Thanks, but no thanks!
Wouldn’t like to play on an experimental field.

You Are Being Lied About Reciprocal Links!

Monday, May 15th, 2006

If you maintain a website online seek to market it, you may have been told or even offered reciprocal links. Most
advertisements promise that such a venture can get more people to go to your site, raise your search engine rankings,
and add to consumer and surfer interest in your product, service, or craft.

What are reciprocal links?

Reciprocal linking, as the name implies, is just exchanging links with a website selling products or services similar to yours.
They will promise to post your link on their site if you promise to post their link on yours. Visitors to your site will most
likely visit theirs, and visitors to their site will most likely visit yours.

Just how effective are reciprocal links? Are they all hype? Are you, as the careful web designer and developer, being told
everything about them?

The aim of most reciprocal link exchangers is to increase their site’s search engine rankings. However, according to a study,
finding sites on search engines contributes only about 15% to a website’s traffic. Reciprocal linking, then, will not get you
traffic through search engine ranking.

So what purpose does reciprocal linking serve? It can get you traffic, but only and mostly if people click on your site’s link
from someone else’s site.

How can you substantially increase your traffic through reciprocal linking? If your link appears in as many other sites as
possible. This will mean that you have to list a great number of links yourself – but if you have a lot of useful links on your
links page, you can actually help your site visitors, and make your website credible.

If you have a useful website with lots of links, and with other people linking back to you, you can get more people to visit
your site, and keep up a good stream of Internet traffic. You can be famous in no time, right?

Reciprocal linking can help boost your Internet popularity, true, but only if done correctly. With more webmasters concerned
with popularity rather than content, however, reciprocal linking with as many people as possible may actually be more to your
detriment than benefit.

Why is this so?

1. Some sites do not have consistently good content

Sure, you link to many websites, and have them link back to you, but just how good are these websites?

If the website that links to you does not get updated, or does not have good content, chances are, they won’t be getting
any visitors, and you won’t be getting any from them. And if your website links to them, and your visitors go to their site,
do you think they’ll love you for linking them to a useless site? Even your site will lose visitors if your link partners don’t have
good content.

Think: quality over quantity when choosing link partners. But with the Internet changing every day, how sure
are you that your link partners can be with you for the long term?

2. Some sites don’t display links properly.

Sadly, some sites will not even display your link at all, despite their promise. And even if they do, your link will not be prominent
enough for visitors to see it and visit your site.

So how can you check if your affiliates are displaying your link? All you have to do is visit their website at least once every
month – a tall order if you’re thinking of reciprocal linking with at least a hundred sites to get word out on you.

3. Some sites look for link partners, not visitors

Some sites are designed in such a way that they become famous because they have many link partners – but not enough
content to help visitors out. Sometimes, what results are link partners visiting each other’s sites and closing their club around
their circle of websites.

What happens to your site, then? It gets a lot of visits – from your link partners, who already know about you.

4. Some sites do not have well organized links pages

In an effort to boost popularity, some webmasters can be reckless and simply list all their affiliate sites on their links page.
Their random collection can give visitors a headache.

If sites, including yours, have categorized links, they will attract more traffic and increase the site’s popularity naturally.
Again, sadly, this is not true for most sites on the Internet, and reciprocal linking with them will befuddle more than benefit
visitors.

So how can you avoid these pitfalls? Visit your link partners regularly, and choose a few good ones firsthand.

Most importantly, rely on other methods to get word out on your website. Besides, you’ll never know who you’re linking with.

Do Reciprocal Links Work To Increase My Page Rank?

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Reciprocal links work like this. You will put your link on someone else’s website and they will be able to list their website
on yours. It is a trade off. But, there has been a lot of controversy about these links. Do they work to help improve your
page rank in search engines? Do they hurt your page rank? Should you bother investing in them? To answer these questions,
take a moment to consider both sides of the coin. The bottom line, to most webmasters, is that they are capable of working
for you.

Why They May Not Be Good

When reciprocal links first began to be used, it was a trade off between one webmaster and another. If you were in the
home decorating business, for example, it would be beneficial to work with and have a link to a company that provides
windows. You both would benefit. When the webmasters did this, they found that their websites did in fact rank better.
In fact, it worked so well that they went out and sought more and more of them.

There in lies the problem. Instead of working with other website owners to develop a relationship and create a reciprocal
link that benefited both parties, many website developers found that they could buy these links instead. Now, they did not
have to go to the trouble of luring in those that they would like to have links from but they could just buy them. Okay, this
is not so bad right? The problem was that people were buying and using thousands of reciprocal links on their website.
This is completely unnatural and it just didn’t work well for them.

But, Why?

The search engines soon became wise to this scheme of getting your website to rank well. They developed programs that
would spot this problem and in fact people that used this large amount of reciprocal links, in this fashion, were ranked WORSE!
They would spend top dollar to get these links from companies that were all too willing to sell them and would end up well
back into the search pages.

So, Now What?

Keeping these things in mind, you need to consider wisely if you should in fact use reciprocal links for the websites that
you put up. In most cases, if you take the time to work at getting reciprocal links from qualified webmasters instead of
buying large amounts of them, you are more capable of securing a sound method for increasing your page rank. If you
decide to purchase hundreds of them and slap them on your website quickly, you will face a worst case scenario of
lowering your page rank.

Keep in mind as well that one of the best ways to increase traffic to your web page with links is to use one way links.
You can get these by using article directory sites. There may not be a sure fire way to take a brand new site and get it as
number one in the search engines, you can gain some movement upwards if you use links properly.

Why Would I Want A Link Partner?

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

If you are new to the internet marketing world then the the question “why link partner?” is a very valid one. If you are not
new to the game then you have no business asking the question because you know very well that it is one of the most
powerful techniques to get your name and/or product out on the web. The more you are spread across the internet like this
the more the search engines are going to see you and recognize you as desirable for their rankings.

So how do you link partner when you don’t know a lot of people out there let alone people who would want to, or know how
to link partner with you. Another valid question and I’m glad you asked because in the next several paragraphs I’m going to
tell you just how to do it.

Link partnering is a strategy that many people have put a lot of time into developing. This means that if you want to link
partner, there are many people who “have gone before you,” and therefore are great resources of valuable information.
These people run seminars, have written books, and have developed many tools to make this a very profitable endeavor.
Once you learn the basics, the trick is to do it on a scale that makes a difference on the bottom line.

The trick to ramping up scale is to purchase (or develop your own if you have the time) a tool that automates most of the processes involved in forming a link partner. These include finding sites that you want to have links on, contacting the
person who owns and/or runs the site and requesting the right to have a link on their page, and (most of the time) then
putting their link on your page in return.

These tools allow you to do all of this in a very fast, very professional (and therefore successful) manner so that you start
to see results instantly. I am talking about hundreds and maybe even thousands of new link partners per day. Sounds
good right? Let me tell you it is one of the best profit increasers for internet selling that i know. I strongly recommend that
you do some research–spending time learning the value of a link partner and the best way to go about getting lots of them.

Googles “Big Daddy” Purportedly Causing Havoc With Page Rankings

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Bigdaddy, Google’s new data centre, isn’t news to most webmasters; both Search Engine Watch and Webmaster World’s
forums have discussed the technology since late 2005, and even Google’s own Chief Search Engineer Matt Cutts has
blogged the topic extensively. Even the reason behind the naming convention (one of the Google staff’s kids call him
Big Daddy at home) is out in the open.

How Bigdaddy will affect page rankings within Google however, still remains to be seen, although there is a lot of speculation floating around the Net. Mr. Cutt’s blog states that the new foundation will improve cannonicalization, which is the computer
code that tells a search engine that

www.domain.com
domain.com
domain.com/index.html
www.domain.com/index.html

are all the same web site. It is also reported that the data center will positively impact 302 redirects, which have been
a known issue for some time.

What wasn’t anticipated with the update though were the chaotic and oftentimes strange behaviors the search engine
has displayed, most notably over the past several months. Although some of Google’s previously-indexed sites dropping
off the face of the engine may be associated with their reported lack of server space and others due to Google’s “different datacenters get different data at different times” statement, many of the problems seem surreal, without explanation.

For instance, Webmaster World’s forums have reported large SERPS drops, changes in supplemental result handling,
“home page only” results and pages dropping right out of the Bigdaddy index, while the Digital Point forums are asking
if Google has cleaned their index and why the supplemental problem is reoccurring.

What little information is available on the subject is only the information that webmasters are providing each other;
little explanation is coming from Google themselves right now. Some experts have shown that the supplemental deletions
across the data centers have been gradual over the past several months, with the idea that perhaps the supplemental
results are being deleted to free up server space. Others have noticed the inclusion of longer URLs with multiple variables,
such as database-driven pages (which were not previously indexed), and the product-based sites like BizRate and Amazon generating higher search results than previously found.

Right now, the only “fixes” seem to be either contacting a member of the Google team (most notably posting in
Mr. Cutts’ blog), ensuring your website doesn’t fit within the “too similar” Google guideline (as it seems that sites with
slightly different page text are doing better than most) or hitting up Google’s site for a re-inclusion request. Without more
guidance from Google though, there isn’t much webmasters can actively do at the moment, other than sit back and watch Bigdaddy work out the search engine-retrieval bugs, talk over the situation with other webmasters, and stay as informed
on the subject as possible.

The Blog Market

Away From Links And Toward Popularity?

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

Google has established itself as a leader in the search engine industry. Effectively Google retains, month after month,
almost 1/2 of search engine inquiries. Their PPC advertising model, Adwords, is second to none and the possibilities for
website publishers are endless with their Adsense, ad-publishing client. The company has created popular computer
programs such as: Google Earth, Google Desktop, Google Toolbar, Picasa, and SketchUp. And they operate such online
services as: Gmail, Google Trends, Google Scholar, Google News, and Google Groups.

The reason I mention these facts is that there have been many in the search engine world that have speculated that
Google is moving away from links and toward popularity. What I mean is that in the traditional sense, Google has used
the data based on the individual links that a certain website has pointing to it. There are several factors involved in
evaluating the links data that helps Google determine the popularity of a site and importance of its content. In the new
sense, many have speculated that Google has been able to gain a finite amount of aggregate usage data from its various
programs and services that allows them to further develop their algorithm into a more accurate and relevant service.
This allows them to really evaluate a site based on how popular it truly is and weigh it’s content and position in the search
engines accordingly.

Honestly to me, it’s an ingenious idea and in part it has been verified by a post on Matt Cutts Blog where he mentions
the new efforts Google is using to reduce bandwidth. He mentions the fact that Google uses their popular Adsense service
to help index the web faster. This spreads the indexing load out a bit and encourages Google to use the same technique
on their other popular services.

So what does this mean for the individual webmaster? This means that the direction of search results could
take a drastic shift from the norm of link popularity to actual user popularity, which is more powerful than the
alternatives. So in the future, I still believe link popularity will remain a cornerstone of the search engines algorithm,
but that data will supplemented or be the supplement, in part to the popularity data.
